First Hotel Atlantic, 8000 Århus C
Hotels have a fundamental energy dilemma. Until now, they have had full heat in the rooms, regardless of whether they were occupied, "since the heat must be on when the customer enters the room", says Hotel Director Tonny Bak.
This has now been solved by SoftControl, which with our EnergySystem integrates with the hotel's booking system (ROVERD), so that the room has the desired temperature when the customer opens the door for the first time, and is cooled down between customers.
What is saved on heat is earned...
With night lowering, the average hotel achieves a savings of about 20% by lowering the temperature by 4 degrees from daytime to cooling night temperature. (Not all hotels use this, but instead opt for 'winter-closing' the least popular rooms, thus achieving the same savings.)
At 60% occupancy, and where 'occupancy' control lowers the temperature by 7 degrees, an additional average savings of 10% is achieved.
Everything is controlled by sensors and smart algorithms, so there is no noticeable difference that the room has been cooled between guests.
If a guest or cleaning staff opens a window, the radiators automatically turn off, providing an additional unaccounted-for savings.
A full hotel with built-in intelligence
It is often a problem with smoking guests who have difficulty adjusting to the fact that smoking in rooms is no longer allowed, which costs hotels a lot of money as the next guest demands a different room, more frequent cleaning, and in the worst case, renovation. A smoking detection system alerts the lobby staff, allowing them to politely knock on the door and ask the guest to extinguish any lit cigarette.
Many small streams
The hotel is also working towards various certifications and requirements. One of these is the need to check for running toilets at frequent intervals, which is why the hotel director, Tonny Bak, asked SoftControl to find a solution.
SoftControl quickly invented a sensor that, when installed on the toilet, sends a notification of potential leakage to the maintenance responsible. This is also something that can be used for a GreenKey certification.
Welcome to Atlantic
Now, the hotel staff can use their time for what is more enjoyable and creates value for the customers — namely, to welcome and serve their guests.
Cheers and thanks to Hotel Atlantic for an exciting and challenging project for SoftControl.
